GERMAN PROMOTIONAL CD SINGLES
The first promo CD single appeared for 'I'll remember' with at least one promo CD issued for each commercial single release. All come with special PRCD catalogue number prefix and many have special disc graphics (featured on the left) although these don't usually include picture sleeves or back inserts. The rarest german CD has to be 'Buenos Aires' which now fetches up to £100 here in UK, dispite it's total lack of picture cover or backing inlay. A five-track sampler CD was issued for 'Evita', and came with picture sleeve and disc graphics, as did 'You Must Love Me'.
'Frozen' also came with a full picture cover, 'product information insert' and yellow disc, although there is a far scarce second CD for 'Frozen (PRCD1502) which came with three 'Radio Edits' and special picture sleeve design (pictured left), this is mega rare now and I have only seen a handful in existance. 'Ray Of Light' was also pressed in Germany and is identical to the British copies except for it's 'PRCD1142' catalogue number and German 'product information insert'. There is also a second promo CD, which is mega rare and comes with propper picture sleeve and includes four 'Edits'. This pressing is as rare as the second 'Frozen' promo and is set to be one of Germany's all time rarest pressings.
'Drowned World' produced a great aqua-blue disc promo CD, also issued in the UK although actually made in Germany. this pressing came with unique '3333 00054-2' catalogue number and full picture sleeve. Comes with 'Radio Edit (4:45)'.
'Power Of Good-bye' has produced a great promo CD which was also issued in the UK. This came with unique 'Pro 01055' catalogue number and floral graphics, along with Album Version and product information insert with some.
'Nothing Really Matters' was issued in identical promo to the UK one but has different 'German' catalogue prefix (PRO 1211). 'Beautiful Stranger' came with 'PR 01417 CD' catalogue number, promotional picture insert sleeve and unique blue disc graphics. This was also issued in the UK. As were both 'American Pie' promo CD singles: the 2 mix came with 'PRO1802' catalogue number and the 5 mix came with 'PRO1819' catalogue number, both included a white disc graphic and same p/s variation as the UK CD1.
See the Madonna Ultiography Book for full info, track listings and catalogue numbers of ALL German releases.
The promotional CDs for 'Music', 'Don't Tell Me', 'What It Feels Like For A Girl' and 'Amazing', were similar to 'American Pie', 'Beautiful Stranger' and 'Drowned World', in that they were all pressed for Europe, not solely UK. This means that they had European catalogue number prefix. There were two Music CDs, the first had hard casing, insert sleeve, pink disc graphics and just an 'Album Version'. The second CD was a rarer issue coming in jewel caing, full p/s, brown grahics and three 'Edits' (PR 02055).
'Don't Tell Me' also produced two different CDs: The first coming in pink and white 'Maverick' sleeve with similar disc graphics in jewel casing. This looks the same as the Security Service' album promos issued for Evita, Ray Of Light and Evita! Although it was NOT a Security Service edition though! Has '4:10' Edit Mix. (Bigger Image). There was then a second three track promo CD issued in picture insert.
'What If Feels Like For A Girl' (PR 02461), came in jewel casing with picture insert. The disc was silver with white horseshoe. This came with Edit 4:02 mix and copies were easily acquired so isn't too scarce. (Bigger Image). There was far rarer Spanish Version promo CD but this WAS strickly for the German market as not for certainly not for the UK!
'Amazing' was also pressed in promotional format for Gremany, and Europe, although it was never actually released as a single anywhere. This presing had a pink and white 'Security Service' style pressing with pink and white disc and 3:44 mix in jewel casing. The catalogue number was 'PR02645' and this was available in the UK!.
