USA
 As with the UK, America started pressing CD singles in 1989 from Like A Prayer onwards; both commercial and promotional. The first CD single was a unique 3" disc encased in amazing elongated picture cover, which stands about 10" hign and has a small circular window which shows the disc indide. This is now scarce and certainly looks cool enough to warrent £20 in mint condition when still factory sealed.
MAXI CDS
Following Like A Prayer was three great maxi CDs: Keep It Together, Vogue and Hanky Panky, all came in an album style chunky casing with picture insert cover and back picture sleeve (these were all 5" pressings as were all pressed there after).
Justify My Love debuted "Digi-Pak" cased maxi CD singles, these concist of a hard card case which opens out like a book to reveal the disc clipped to the back cover. This format was used right up to Rain in 1992, and took in the following releases:

The latest type of maxi CD first appeared for I'll remember in 1993.
This format are similar to "Digies" but have resealable cases, known as "FLP". I love these pressings as many come with great inner sleeve picture designs and matching disc graphics. "FLP" pressings include:

SINGLE CDS
As already mentioned, Like A Prayer was the first single CD issue, but there wasn't another issued until 1992 when Erotica was released in single CD format. This came in card sleeve which is how all single CDs were pressed up to and including You'll See. Single CDs generally carry identical tracks to cassingles and 7" vinyl and sell at about £5.
The latest type of single CD, which first appeared in 1994 for Love Don't Live Here Anymore came in a special lightweight "Draw-Pak" casing. The casing basically concists of a thin card square tube where the plastic draw containg the CD slides in and out, neat.
American CDs are fairly collectable around the world but those with irregular picture covers or rare remixes fetch the highest prices including: Keep It Together (with 'mirror image' cover), Rain (with 'water' cover), I'll Remember (with variation on the UK cover), Human Nature (with 'floral' cover) and Love Don't Live Here Anymore.
USA PROMOTIONAL CDS
 Any American promo release seems to be collectable especially CD pressings, more so because of remix content than sleeve design though. USA promo CDs all carry distinctive label designs, most are totally plain, with later copies coming with additional maverick logo in gold, but some do include special disc graphics or interesting additions including:

- Secret (both CDs came with cool die-cut stickers)
- Bedtime Story (PRO-CD-7444) (with pink palm graphics and special clear casing)

- Frozen (PRO-CD-9182) (with white Maverick logo disc design and full colour insert)

- Power Of good-bye (PRO-CD-9418) (with foral graphics disc).
- Nothing Really Matters (PRO-CD-9638) (with buildings graphics).
- Beautiful Stranger (PRO-CD-9760) (yellow & green disc graphics).

There are also a number of compilation CDs issued with Madonna tracks:
This is the rare "Where's The Party" 3" CD single. This was issued by Warners and Geffen and includes WTP along with three tracks by other artists. It's catalogue number is CDS-000031-2, and it comes in plain card sleeve!
