GUIDE TO SOUTH AFRICAN CD SINGLES

South Africa has produced very few Madonna items so all are fairly well sort after. Especially 7" and 12". But there has been 18 CD singles including 'Die Another Day', three from the Music album, plus 'American Pie', one for 'Beautiful Stranger', five from the Ray Of Light album, and another seven previous earlier ones which are incredibly hard to find.
Music produced four CD singles in South Africa if you include 'American Pie'. 'American Pie' (WBSD 37 AD) was issued in April 2000 in jewel casing with regular insert sleeve. This track was then added to many Music album releases including those in South Africa, Europe, japan and Australia.
The first 'Music Era' CD single was 'Music' (WBSD 41), issued in September 2000, which came in jewel casing and regular picture insert sleeve. Next came 'Don't Tell Me', (WBSD 43), issued in Feburary 2001, which also came in jewel casing and regular picture insert sleeve with the folllowing tracks: Radio Edit 4:10, Cyber-Raga 5:31, Thunderpuss Club Mix 7:53 and Vission Remix 7:52. The final single was 'What It feels Like For A Girl' which was similar to the Cerman four track edition with jewel casing and insert sleeve. Has the following tracks: Album Version 4:43, Above & Beyond 12" Club 7:27, Paul Oakenfold Perfecto Mix 7:18 and Richard Vission Velvet Masta Mix 8:08.

All five ROL era CD singles are totally official and all come in jewel casing with fold-out p/s inserts.
'Frozen' and 'Ray Of Light' have similar disc design to each other; 'Frozen' has a silver disc, while 'Ray Of Light's' is a unique white colour. Both have regular picture sleeve design although Ray Of Light has Madonna's face facing forward!
'Power Of Good-bye' is strange because it has the regular sleeve design but the picture appears to be 90 degrees anti-clockwise. Also the disc carries gold Maverick logo design, the same as the USA promo CDs which is strange BUT I am to believe this is totally official, and certainly scarce.
'Drowned World' comes with regular white p/s BUT actually has the disc and mixes that was used in all other countries for the black sleeve pressing (carrying the 'BT and Sasha Bucklodge...' mix instead of 'Sasha Remix', normally found on the white sleeve CD2 pressing), strange!...
The final CD single is 'Nothing Really Matters' which comes in regular picture sleeve to the CD1 pressing and comes with 'buildings' graphics
The three other jewel cased CD singles issued were: "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" this comes with face p/s as used in Europe and USA, and comes in jewel casing with reg disc design. "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", came in regular p/s and looks similar to the UK issue. "Beautiful Stranger" with dark-orange and purple disc design.

These come in the thin cardboard covers like those issued in Europe. There may also be one for "You'll See" single booklet folded out into a poster which I hope to show here very soon!!!. Although Carlo from South Africa pointed out that 'You'll See' was never released.
Well I now have EXCLUSIVE information from Carlos in South Africa on You'll See release:
This is the story from Gallo Records...:
"You'll See" was never released a cd single but was released on vinyl as a
single. Wether or not it was a 7" or 12" I haven't been able to establish.
What I did find out was it was limited to only 25!! The initial plan was
that it was going to be sold commercially but because they only printed so
few, they GAVE THEM AWAY instead!!!!
I was supposed to get one but my
friend who used to work there got promoted and does not work with the
Warner/Maverick/Sire label anymore. What I'm trying to do currently is to
try and get a picture of one and more info. This has got to be the rarest
Madonna collectable in South Africa.
I can't describe my dissapointment
right now and I'm not sure wether or not I should cry or not!!!
Many thanks to my good friends and fellow collectors 'Teo Eng How' in Singaopre, 'Jan Els', 'Justin Kennedy' and 'carlo' from SA and for the info and scans.
