This guy is basically anoying and seems to be from France. He ordered a large number of items from my Web Site (www.buysellmadonna.com) in 1999, then went awol. Many items were saved esp for him, which is cool with me as I am always more than willing to hold items for anyone, however long it takes, but this guy just decided to disapear. I emailed him for about a month, and got no replys. I gave up, no harm done, just a pain in the ass! About 8 months later in Aug 2000 I get an email from him, He's been away and can I please supply him with the items. I decided to give him another go and guess what, after agreeing everything, and him agreeing to buy the items and get cash wired, he disapears again!!! IF YOU OWN A SITE OR SELL MADONNA ITEMS, BEWARE OF THIS TIME WASTER! (He apparently deals in large quantities with the following companies: Esprit, Around, Southland or any non-all-Madonna sellers)

I am not sure if you have dealt with Barney at all. I am having trouble getting merchandise from him that I have ordered. We are talking about only $38 and I cannot believe that he is such a poor business person. I have sent numerous e-mails to him requesting either my money back or the merchandise. He has told me on two occasions that the merchandise was sent. He claims the first package was lost in the mail. The second one was mailed a month ago and is still not here. I am not sure what to do from here. I have my receipt of my money order and I have verified that it has been cashed. I would appreciate any input that you might have. If nothing else, I want to warn as many people so that they don't get ripped off. Thanks!

Hi Kevin,
I have somebody that ripped me off a while ago. I found out that many people have been ripped off by him as well. His name is Barney Medunic. I was doing a trade with him. I was supposed to send him the Thailand's Beautiful Stranger 3" Promo CD (a very scarce cd as you probably know!) & don't cry for me argentina 3"cd in exchange for his Beautiful Stranger 3"cd (which I found out later was simply a home-made 3"cdr!), and some remixes CDRs. Of course,

I sent him the cds and had asked him to send my cds to an address in Los Angeles. Months went by and my contact in LA never received his package. I kept emailing him but he wouldn't reply. I even sent him instant messages at times since we're on the same ISP but he never wrote anything back. He only wrote back after I started to ask people on the newsgroup about him. He claimed that the post office had somehow lost the package, which he'd sent insured, and they wouldn't give him insurance money as the package went overseas. What overseas? He lives in New Jersey and he was supposed to send the package to Los Angeles!!! He claimed that he would send me replacement cds, but, of course, I never saw them. He stopped replying to my emails again after that (after debates about him on the newsgroup faded). I'd long given up on ever getting those cds, but I think that people should be warned about him. Many people came forward claiming that they'd been ripped off by him when I wrote to the newsgroup. He keeps saying that he doesn't rip off anybody and he has a busy life so he can't reply to all emails. Whatever! I just don't understand why he couldn't send those cds. They were all CDRs! I sent him 2 very valuable cds, which are worth 100 times those CDRs that he was supposed to send to me. Obviously, he cannot be trusted!

I am writing you about Jacob ARELLANO; last summer he sold Madonna items from an advert on your web-site. Can I really trust him ? Because, since september 99'!!!!! he promised me to send out the posters which I paid for, but I did not got them !!! (Remy - France)

Story goes:
He put No.1 mag from february 1985 up on ebay and I won the item, so we contacted each other after auction and I sent payment. When I kept on hearing nothing from him I asked him what was wrong he said he was late with shipping and that he was still going to send the mag because he had indeed received the payment. Then when I still heard nothing I contacted him again and told me that he was again late because he undercharged many people with shipping and had to pay for shipping out of his own pocket but the items were sent. Well it's been almost 3 months now and I still haven't received the mag. Have send him numerous e-mails but he never responded. Posted him negative feedback on ebay, others have done this as well just check his feedback at: Cd-video-Hound at ebay. I paid a lot for this mag so I really would like him to be at least as polite to tell me what happened.

Hello again - I just thought I'd share this one with you - this one is a real LOSER!!!

BEWARE of the eBay user "mad-tarkan" (Steve Barrington). He is a rude, offensive, vulgar person who created a temporary, web-based e-mail account through zzn.com, just so he could purposely out-bid me (and probably others) on Madonna items. He has also purposely placed outrageously-high bids on my own items that I am selling, just so that he would be the high bidder, and therefore be able to post NEGATIVE feedback after the auction, for absolutely NO valid reason! He's also a dead-beat bidder. If you check his eBay feedback rating (which is currently at -3), you'll see what I mean.

Just this morning, he posted me a nasty, totally false negative feedback for a CD that he was the high bidder of (a link to the actual auction is below). If you read that CD's description, you will clearly see that I stated it's a real, silver, factory-pressed CD, and NOT a CD-R! However, he claims that I was selling a CD-R, which is totally NOT true, and harms my reputation. I have already made a vow to automatically PULL any bids that he places on my items, and if any of you are selling Madonna items on eBay, I strongly encourage you to pull any of his bids before it's too late. Mr. Barrington has already sent me three extremely rude, offensive, vulgar e-mails that made my stomach turn! He told me that he's Not paying for CD-Rs" when he knew all along that the disc I was selling was real! DO NOT deal with him! Don't say I didn't warn you!

Likewise, I suggest that you be VERY CAREFUL when dealing with ANYONE who has an e-mail address from the zzn.com domain - make sure that they have at least 10 positive feedbacks, with NO negative feedbacks, before dealing with them on eBay!

OK here is the story, a couple of months back I put an add on the Madonna trading post site because I was looking for the TIME mag from 1985. Then this girl mails me and tells me she got the mag and I had to make her an offer. So I offered $25.00 for the mag and she agreed and told me that it would include the shipping. So I sent the money and never heard from her again, contacted her a zillion times only to find out that her e-mail address no longer existed, but I got some ideas that she changed it to dorrow@hotmail.com. Still won't answer me, this girl just stole the money from me. I have reported her to several internet pages including the fraud pages. Scott USED TO BE a good customer of mine, and a trusted friend. However, he has been extremely difficult to deal with these past few months.

Scott started buying stuff through my Madonna Catalog back in 1992. He was a very valued customer of mine, and he often spent a LOT of money on Madonna collectibles (many times spending $500.00 or more per order). Back in 1994, when recordable compact discs were first made possible, I THOUGHT I could trust him, so I agreed to make him some "custom-made" CD-R discs, with some remixes that he wanted. These were always made for him with the assumption that they were for his own personal use and enjoyment, and were not to be re-sold or copied for anybody else. I also sold and/or traded a few other CD-R discs for him here and there, between 1996 and 1998. We BOTH knew that buying, selling, and/or trading CD-R discs is illegal, but we were both just trying to help out a fellow Madonna fan/collector, and we were both happy (he was getting his rare remixes, and I was getting some items to sell through my catalog).

Problems began in September of 1999, when Scott asked me to "overnight" a custom-made CD-R disc for him, in trade for a magazine that I wanted to re-sell. Just a couple days later, I saw a company in Texas called LONE STAR MUSIC (LSM) selling a similar CD-R disc on eBay, containing three of the tracks that I had put on Scott's CD-R, that weren't available anywhere else. All I did was politely ask him if he had given LSM a copy of the CD I made for him, and he got all bent out of shape. He got all mad that I re-sold the magazine he gave me, stating that "If I can re-sell the magazine, he can do whatever he wants with the CD, it's the same thing."

However, we all know that CD-R discs and magazines are NOT the "same thing"; CD-R's can be copied off again and again, then re-sold all over the world if they end up in the wrong hands; whereas a magazine is an "official" item that can not be "duplicated," and which is perfectly legal to re-sell from one person to another, which is exactly what I did. I made that CD-R for his own personal use and enjoyment, and he knew that.

The biggest problem I had with him started back in November, when he wrote to me, and told me that he had TEN items from my want list. We agreed on, and I sent him, $660.00 for these items (including INSURED shipping charges), and the package took over two weeks longer to arrive than it should have (I was supposed to get the package on or around October 22nd, but it didn't arrive until November 6th). When it finally did arrive, two of the items were MISSING from the box completely, and two other items were INCORRECT (which there was NO excuse for, since the two items were clearly pictured on my want list, to avoid confusion). Since he was the one that originally told me he had items from my want list, he should have seen the pictures of the items, and not sent the wrong ones. This is especially unacceptable from such a serious and long-time Madonna collector, who should have known that nobody in their right mind would offer $75.00 for a "La Isla Bonita" 7" single with the same exact picture on the sleeve as the regular U.S. version (the one I wanted, and was pictured on my want list, was the Spain promo with UNIQUE sleeve).

Mr. Staup did NOT insure the package as I asked him to (I even paid him enough to insure the package, which would have avoided all these problems). When I told him about the problems with the package, all he did was INSIST over and over again that he put ALL the items in the box. The package did not appear to be tampered with in any way, and all the items that did arrive were well-wrapped and all taped up with bubble wrap, indicating that they had not been tampered with. It is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that someone along the way opened up the box, carefully un-wrapped all the items inside, then took ONLY two of the items out (one CD and one 7" single), carefully wrapped and taped everyting back up, then re-sealed the box, and continued to send it to me - it just doesn't make sense. What the hell would a postal worker want with a "Dear Jessie" CD single, anyway? If the person that supposedly took these items during shipping was interested in Madonna, he would have taken the whole package, not just two items.

Either way, he absolutely REFUSED to refund my money for the two missing items (which totalled over $200.00), and refused to even TRY to help me solve this problem (I even asked him TWICE to describe the packaging and tape he used to seal the box, so I could investigate the problem with the postal service, but he refused to answer, leaving me helpless).

Because of what I had asked him about his possible involvement with LSM back in September, he ASSUMED that I was trying to "get even" with him by claiming that items were missing from the package, so he called me a liar, and refused to help solve the problem. Also, he started to bring up totally un-related, totally un-necessary incidents from several years ago, claiming that I've been trying to screw him over all along, which is totally not true.

For example, he claims that some of the CD-R discs I made him back in 1995 were faulty - he NEVER told me about this until now (I obviously would have re-done the discs for him at no charge). He also claims that I "re-sealed" an opened CD, and tried to pass it off as "factory sealed," which is totally not true. He claims that the CD inside (just for the record, it was the re-issued German CD pressing of Madonna's first album) was a USA pressing and not a German pressing; as if I'd actually try to fool such a serious Madonna collector as himself. To top it all off, he now claims that I've been "ripping him off" all along, with my "highway robbery prices" (I never, ever forced him to buy ANYTHING from me, and he had every right to "shop around" before buying things from me (and if he didn't, that's his own problem), so his claim that I was ripping him off is totally ridiculous).

Had he brought those supposed "problems" up when they first happened YEARS AGO, I would have done whatever necessary to solve the problem. But now he's using these extremely minor, un-related (and un-true) incidents and accusations to try and make ME look like the bad guy. His only "defense" tactic in this whole matter is that he's going to turn me in to Maverick and Warner Bros. for making "illegal CD-Rs." He seems to forget that he wouldn't HAVE all those rare remixes and tracks on CD if I didn't take a huge risk by making him those CD-R's in the first place. He chooses to bite the hand that fed him all these years, rather than simply refund my money, and end this problem once and for all.

Anyhow, I returned the two incorrect items to him via certified mail - I have proof (a signed receipt) that he received the incorrect items on November 16, 1999, and he has yet to refund the money for those items. Instead, Mr. Staup chooses to either ignore my e-mails, and/or threaten me and scare me with all sorts of non-related issues. He posted really nasty feedback to my eBay profile, which was not called for (he claimed that I was "caught by Maverick making illegal CD-Rs," which is NOT true. All he's doing is avoiding the REAL problem here, which is my missing merchandise and non-refunded incorrect merchandise.

And while we're on the subject of ILLEGAL - Scott is registered on eBay as "easterbeagle," but he gave eBay a fake name (Charles Brown) and bogus phone number (it just rings a fax machine) in his registration info, which is ILLEGAL.

As of December 17, 1999 (over a month since he received the incorrect items that I returned), he still has not refunded my money. He has been ignoring my e-mails. The e-mails he has sent me are rude and offensive.

DO NOT DEAL WITH SCOTT STAUP - He can not be trusted. If you have a problem with him, he will dig back several years if necessary, for the smallest little thing, then bring it up all the sudden like it's a big deal, while ultimately avoiding the REAL problem. It's such a shame that our long-time business (and friend) relationship had to end this way, but these things do happen.
