As always I do try and list all German sold pressings and make sure and similarities between these and the UK pressings are shown. So far though, certainly for CDs, Germany has had two unique pressings that did not appear here in UK!

GERMAN SORRY COMMERCIAL CDS

Germany has had two CD singles for Sorry. One is the usual jewel casing (3 mix), while the other comes in the lesser used thick jewel casing (the cases used for albums).

None of these appeare here in UK so remain Europe only outside UK!

9362 42885-2 in thin jewel case
The German/Euro CD single has three mixes unlike the UK's 2 mixes, and this has totally different catalogue number. This is made In The E. U. and includes the following mixes:

1. Sorry - Radio Version
2. Let It Will Be - (Paper Faces Mix)
3. Sorry Man With Guitar Remix

This pressing was also issued in Italy, sealed with SIAE holgram to show authenticity! (Images are of the Italian import)

9362 42892-2 in thick jewel case
The "Compact Disc Maxi-Single" has the usual thin card gate-fold insert and backing inlay. Unlike the UK version the German one has six mixes (and different catalogue number!). Strangely enough none of the mix times on the german pressing actually match the mix times of the same mixes on the UK version! Includes the following mixes of Sorry (& Let It Will Be):

1. Radio Edit 3:58 (UK "Single Version" version shows 3:57)
2. Man With Guitar Mix (6:04) (UK version shows 6:00)
3. PSB Maxi-Mix (8:36) (UK version shows 8:34)
4. Paul Oakenfold Remix (7:22) (UK version shows 7:12)
5. Green Velvet Remix (6:07) (UK version shows 6:05)

It's about time I mentioned all the UK Sorry commercial releases. I have already mentioned in detail the two perforated promo CDs issued here in UK for Sorry, plus the 1 mix jewel case promo CD so now its time for the other pressings!

UK SORRY COMMERCIAL CDS

The UK has had two CD singles for Sorry. One is the usual jewel casing (CD1) affair while the other (CD2) comes in the lesser used thick jewel casing ($the cases used for albums).

Interestingly, both discs look 'home made' with very low resolution printing? Probably part of the ever increasing cut-backs by Warners!

CD1 has a black rectangle promo sticker stuck to it's case and has gate-fold insert. I have not yet seen any with a single insert so assume only gate-fold copies exist here in UK. The inner part of the disc gives reference to "TSDC" and the whole thing is Made In The E. U.! Includes the following mixes:

W703CD2 (9362 42914-2) in thick jewel case

The USA is set for a very limited tripple 12" called CONFESSIONS REMIXED (0-42916, UPC Code: 0-9362-42916-0-2), which is being released on April 11th but is limited to just 3000 units so very scarce!

This is information based on the USA promos I have managed to acquire so far so if anyone can add more to this list let me know please.

Well so far I have managed to acquire 8 USA promo CDs for Sorry, which is certainly far greater than three that appeared for Hung Up!

USA SORRY PROMO CDS

So far there has been two different types of CD-r promos issued in the States for Sorry. The more common type are the ones with off-white card back inlay with black text, which first appeared for American promo CDs for American Life in 2002 and have been used widely since! Sorry has so far given rise to two of this type of promo.

The more scarce CD-r are the Digital Clone 'test pressing/promo' format. Similar to the original Digital Clone CDs which have been around for years but not identical. This particular type of Digital Clone promo first appeared for Hung Up in 2005 and fairly scarce. Some have no front insert at all, some do have a simple perforated front insert while one (Hung Up) came with colour front insert. Strangely all come with ultra thin jewel cases like those used for holding computer CD-rs!

The 2 mix test pressings are selling for around £35 - £40 while the multi mix ones about a tenner more! The 1 mix test pressings and promos will cost about £20 - £25 each! Finally, the Work Use Only CD-r listed at the bottom is the rarest of them all and features eight mixes and is very hard to acquire!

USA SORRY WORK USE ONLY 8 MIX CD-R

This item does look professional but I am not 100% certain that its real? Once I see this close up I may be able to tell more.

I have recently received confirmation that this is actually an official USA promotional/test pressing. There is also one other similar to this and I will update details shortly.

It's inscribed "WORK USE ONLY" and includes the usual Maverick & WB logos and also EMI! This does contain remixes which have only just come out commercially here in UK and rest of the world (20th Feb 2006), which does lead to this pressing being possibly real as it's doubtful anyone could have got hold of these mixes before esp as some never appeared on promos, as far as I'm aware!? Includes the following mixes:

Just heard from a UK collector that there is also a 3 track acetate for the PSB Mixes (the Dub and Edit remain unreleased so far, and can't see them on any schedule).

This is limited to 50 copies in this country, its doubtful you will see one because they have been distributed to CLUBS rather than the usual route! I'll confirm this release as soon as I receive an image of it!

Looks like there may also be a DVD promo and as soon as I get images I'll post them here! Obviously if I lay my hands on any I'll tell those people subscribed to my 'Keep Me Informed' facility first!

Thanks to fellow collector Alejandro for helping with Argentine (Argie) pressings and general Argie information.

Up to 2001 Argentina had generally imported CDs from other countries including UK, Europe and USA. These were imported officially and would initially come with a small hologram sticker on their covers. Similar to the holograms used in Italy, Mexico, Brazil & Romania (Music CD) where imported pressings are sold officially accompanied by special hologram to show authenticity!

I'll let Alejandro explain the rest as He knows more than me on this subject!

OK, the Hung Up single in Argentina is actually made in Argentina, it's not an import, all singles used to be imports from Germany up til 2001 when we had an economy crisis and they started to make them in the country to make them cheaper, the thing is that the single is not a popular format here, so they have only made the following so far:

• American Life (album)
• American Life I
• American Life II
• Hollywood
• Remixed & Revisited
• COADF (album)
• Hung Up

However, these all state they are "Made in Argentina"!

The Argentine Hung Up pressing comes in thin CD-r style jewel casing like the ones used by 'Verbatim' etc. This has picture insert and has following mixes:

1. Radio Version 3:23
2. Tracy Young's Get Up and Dance Groove Edit 4:15
3. SDP Extended Vocal 7:57

Interestingly, Hollywood is now scarce in Argentina and hard to acquire while the others can still be found! If anyone wants any of the others please email me asap!

Hurray! out in UK from Wednesday 8th February is the March 2006 UK Edition of Elle. The UK edition shares it's cover with Holland, Belgium, Ukrian & Spain, however, the UK edition shows Madonna's dress as a true-pink colour?

Inside it features a six page article titled "Confessions Of A Diva" and includes an exclusive interview for Elle by US critic and novelist Daphne Merkin. All new images are of course by photographer Gilles Bedsimon.

I first came across a Japanese promo CD for Hung Up many months ago but for some reason never added it to this page? Since then I have found three different ones!

HUNG UP 1 MIX JAPANESE PROMO CD

This was first bought to my attention Jacquemin Pascal from France and what a fine item it is. One of my favourite promo CDs for Hung Up!

This comes in jewel case with white custom insert written totally in Japanese and gives reference to the COADF and its catalogue number WPCR 12200. The disc is white with black text giving just a few details (in Japanese) plus the album release date '2005.11.09' and includes just one track:

HUNG UP ON COMPILATION PROMO CD ALBUM (PCS 744)

This is interesting. It's an official Warner Music Japan 20 track promo CD sampler dated '2005.11'. Comes in thick jewel case with picture insert which includes Madonna along side Enya! Includes the following mix:

HUNG UP 3 MIX JAPANESE PROMO CD

The final Japanese promo for Hung Up is this rather tasty little blighter! It's a 3 mix promo on white disc, very similar to the first one shown but has English text!?

This is certainly rare and gives reference to the album and includes Hung Up CD maxi catalogue number and release date: 'WPCR 12187, 11/09 on sale'. Includes the following mixes of Hung Up:

ROLLING STONE MADONNA COVERS

I have been lucky to have managed to acquire three Rolling Stone Madonna covers, all are listed below. These will all now be out of circulation but I'm certain they can be acquired still. (Thanks to Dimi and Ivo)

Rolling Stone from USA:
This edition is dated December 2005. The USA edition has the Steven Klein 'red dress' cover shot and includes a fairly good six page article with some new Steven Klein images.

Rolling Stone from Germany:
The German December edition is unique in it's use of a grey-scale image rather than opting for the usual shot from the COADF photographer. Inside it features an amazing fifteen page article with old and new shots!

Rolling Stone from Italy:
The cover is dated Feb 2006 so later than the other Rolling Stone covers and has same 'red dress' cover shot as the USA edition! Inside it contains a seven page article with black and white shots from the making of Hung Up!

La Revista 40 has a scarce shot from the 2005 Steven Klein COADF shoot. One of my favourite covers from this era! This has a brilliant eleven page article on Madonna. Even includes a cool Madonna poster!

Gay Barcelona from Spain:
The first of two recent Spanish 'gay' publications. Has Gilles Bensimon cover from 'that' Elle shoot back in 2001. The actual magazine has four page article!

TopNoche from Spain:
This is a rather cool oversized magazine from Spain called Top Noche with rather nice take on the COADF cover photo. Another 'gay' magazine, and although it has just one page on Hung Up remixers Chus & Ceballos inside, it's a mighty good find!

LATEST ITALIAN MADONNA COVERS

Apart from the Italian Rolling Stone cover I recently received two other Madonna covers from Italy:

VOGUE L'UMO from Italy:
One of my favourite recent cover shots, taken from the COADF shoot with Steven Klein, but put through a filter! This shot is also used for the new Madonna wine label! L'UMO is Italian Vogue and is only available for a very short period in Italy and is dated November 2005! Inside it features a huge fourteen page article with more Klein images.

Hit Mania Magazine from Italy:
An interesting music publication which I'm certain has had more than one Madonna cover in the past? This is not clearly dated but I think its around October 2005? Comes with what appears to be another Steven Klein cover shot and inside features a three page article.

Issued in very small numbers indeed, these must be one of the most quirky promotional items so far!

I've had these for a while, although not got around to wearing them yet (just kidding). There are two colours of COADF promo panties; black ones and pink ones, and these are made of and are wonderful and 100% genuine UK promotional. Not sure who these would have been sent out to? This is the rare Hung Up promo CD in card slip case issued in very small numbers in Argentina, South America.

As mentioned, comes in card slip case with regular cover and black back sleeve with the usual "Disco Promocional Prohibida Su Venda" wording. This is Warner Music Argentina pressing with 'PRCD / 2076' catalogue number. This also has unique black disc with white text and comes with the following three mixes:

2. Tracy Young Remix Edit 3:22
3. SDP Extended Vocal Remix 7:39

Last night, Friday 20th Jan, Pete Tong played a brand new remix of Sorry! Pete generally plays at least one track from the Stuart Price produced album on every show, usually Album Versions of either Sorry or Get Together, perks of being a good friend of Mr Tong!

Tongy played a brand new remix: Man With Guitar Remix, Listen Again.

Sorry promos are finally out, 11th and 12th Jan saw the release of the promo CD and its not bad! Is a 1 tracker with Radio Version in jewel casing with disco ball custom sleeve! Has PRO15696 catalogue number so hopefully not so many of those CD-r promos will be used by WEA!?

Thought I'd better mention the German pressings that have surfaced for far for Hung Up and the differences between these and the UK versions.

If you have been a regular visitor to this site since 1997 or have ever bought a copy of my Madonna Ultiography book then you'll know that I do make comparisons between UK pressings and those pressed for Germany. This is mainly because of the similarities between these pressings and the confusion they cause to the untrained eye. So quite often, I do try to clearly state the differences between our pressings and those issued in Germany.

I've already listed the UK pressings within Hot News, including the two CDs, CD1 and CD2 plus the UK 12" so I'll get straight to the German ones including one CD and a lonesome 12".

3 Mix Maxi CD

Germany initially saw the release of just one CD, 9362 42848 2, similar to the UK CD2 but not the same! This was not titled CD2 and there was no CD1 counterpart! This, like most CDs pressed is Made In EU, usually one of the Eastern countries, and carries the same tracks as UK CD2:

2. Hung Up Tracy Young's Get Up and Dance Groove Edit 4:15

12"

The German 12" appears to be identical to the UK version, even has W695T catalogue number along with 9362 42871 0. The only difference in the copy I have handled is that the German copy has thick glossy card sleeve which has slightly blurred barcode! Includes the following mixes:

I have finally got around to mentioning the USA commercial pressings. Although only two have been released! These were quite collectable initially because of their inclusion of the Chus & Ceballos Remix, Tracy Young's G U A Dance Groove and Bill Hamel Remix. However the maxi CD has now been released here in Europe so these mixes are more scarce than before!

I can honestly say that this is one of the most beautiful promo 12" pressings that I have ever handled! It's just wonderful! The sleeve is made of thick card and has 'boxed' edges. The actual disco ball is embossed with silver and looks so classy. The back sleeve is die-cut so the it's custom picture labels can be seen through it.

Includes the following mixes which are same as used for the UK 12":

This is some kind of Test Pressing CDR for the USA maxi CD single. Has plain white insert with black text & WB logo and plain disc media with printed text and WB logo. Includes the following mixes:
Album Version
SDP Extended Vocal
Bill Hamel Remix
SDP's Extended Dub
Chus Ceballos Remix
Tracy Young Get Up and Dance Groove

There is also a second 2 mix promo/test pressing, similar to the above CD-r but, well, two mixes! IF YOU HAVE THIS PLEASE CONTACT ME AS I NEED IMAGES BADLY!

The USA Test Press CD with the Hung Up Remixes is 100% official. I just got my copy directly from my WB contact. It features the unedited and very exclusive Tracy Young Remix (9:03). I hope this info helps.

This is a rather rare Warner CD-r issued in SMALL numbers, probably a handful only!

It's similar to the rare two mix Tracy Young CD-r which was limited to about 25 copies. The 'Chus & Ceballos' remix CD-r is obviously far rarer! Certainly less than 25 made. Features the following two mixes:
Chus & Ceballos Club Remix 10:19
Chus & Ceballos 12" Remix 5:48
This has perforated insert, probably not gate-fold, same as the Tracy Young CD-r which was the first non-gatefold card insert issue! Yet more Warner's cost cutting!

Now this is RARE! Just received this email from Madonna collector from Greece, Jacquemin Pascal.

This item came from someone working for the Greek music channel MAD TV. It is a promo box limited to just 50 and produce by Warner Greece for Radio executives and music channels.

The box contains a notebook in brown plain leather engraved with a M inside. It's probably not the same notebook as the one to be used for the future limited edition, because this one does not contain any notes! The notebook is from Mulberry and is in plain leather. The box is a big card-box with Madonna COADF logo on it and the pink disco ball in the sides.
