Thanks to UK supa collector Tony Barton for info and scans of the RARE and AMAZING Rescue Me 'Australian' white label promo vinyl 12" pressing. This was only otherwise available here in UK like this, way back in 1990, but this Aussy version was recently discovered by 'Tone'. It has 'MX306089' catalogue number and also features 'MADONNA DJ-2' scratched in the run out groove. Comes in plain white die-cut sleeve and features the 'Album Version' on both sides! BIGGER IMAGE

The UK's News Of The World newspaper featured a double page spread on Swept Away September 15th. The feature is titled 'Madonna's a start ..but I treat her like flesh and blood' and includes five shots from the moview including 'that' octopus scene! and also the spaghetti scene. Madonna certainly looks good in the movie, although it may be a few months till us Brits get to see it? (I had two huge images of the newspaper pages but my bloody PC crashed and I lost the lot..)

Plenty of stuff is now surfacing, promoting the upcoming remake of Swept Away, starring Madonna, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Bruce Greenwood, and Adriano Giannini and directed by Guy Ritchie.

The UK newspaper, The Sun, August 14th 2002, showed two shots from the new Guy Ritchie movie, Swept Away, which stars Madonna. There is two shots from the movie showing Madonna and co-star, Adriano Giannini, 'frolicking' on a beach. This is one version of the Music 'Dan-O-Rama' Remix Version (4:19) issued in promotional format in full picture sleeve in Germany mainly! This version is titled "GREATEST HITS : THE SECOND COMING" and has classic GHV2 design as used for the SAM promo picture CD in 10" gatefold sleeve. The back sleeve, or picture box rather, comes with 15 pictures design similar to the UK/Euro CDR and promo CD pressings. Comes with Warners and Maverick logos and is certainly official! The first magazine is called 'Hit Music Magazine', issued back last year in July I think (written as Julen) and features full GHV2 Madonna album cover shot with a two page inside about the GHV2 album release. This feature is called 'Myterna Om Madona' and includes shots from the Drowned World Tour.

I finally got a ticket for Up For Grabs, hurray and thanks to UK Madonna Xtraordinaire, Sean Brady. And guy is a serious collector, makes Steve C look like a Kylie fan. Just kidding Steve! But this guy does carries a copy of his entire Madonna collection around with him!!

I arrived in London Tuesday afternoon, mooched around London's West End for a few hours and then met up with Mr Brady. I sat six rows from the front, so was bloody near! Funnily enough I had another UK Madonna collector and long term friend by email, Peter Good (and missus) sat next to me, and.... sat in front was the two guys and also long term 'known by email', Cameron and 'other' guy from Spellbound Records from London! Hi Guys!!

Show started with MADONNA stood there!! Fucking stood there in front of everyone!! Amazing..... She commenced by telling a story about an auction which she wanted to organise in order to sell a painting! The sory continues with Madonna taking the lead throughout!! If you have not seen it, GO!! It's an experience, seriously!! The cheesy American dialog is not my thing but who cares when Madonna is stood in front of you, just a few metres away!!

I managed to grab a program and the free magazine with Madonna cover. Although if you have a spare copy of the 'Up For Grabs' script please contact me.. I'm also after the poster that was for sale there!

Up For Grabs saw it's premier on Thursday 23rd May with a packed theatre. This was 10 days after she first appeared in a special night in London. The official debut was a total success and over 1000 people including fans and celebrities alike.

Here in the UK, there were only two worth while newspaper aricles after the opening night. One was the Daily Mirror, Friday 24th May. It featured a whole colour page of Madonna revealing her boobs by accident in front of the packed audience.. "From Rude To Prude" as the article states.. The other newspaper was The Daily Telegraph also featured Madonna, with a small shot on the cover and half page inside... This was quite a good article with two shots of Madonna including Madonna laying on the couch!

May 25th saw Madonna featured in the Bizarre section of The Mirror. A whole page titled Thumps-up For Madge's Show, which shows Madonan and Guy.

Finally, I'm not sure how many of you remember a crazy Madonan fan who last year won tickets to see Madonna at Earls Court in London, despite being a convicted stalker of Madonna. His name is Marcus Sessions and is 28 years old. He is a total fanatic and even got a job working at the Theatre so He could get near to Madonna.

He was eventually caught out and fled the building after less than a week, but 100 out of 100 for trying!! See The UK magazine, Heat, 1 - 7 June for the full story!

While exploring the UK based MCPS-PRS alliance database, I found more evidence to confirm the existence of the long rumored and unreleased Madonna song "Dear Father" written by Madonna and André Betts. http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/

The first real documentation that I found for "Dear Father" was last month in the EMI Music Publishing site database. Prior to this discovery, I had only heard of this Madonna song from other fans and only considered it to be a rumor since it had no American copyright registration that I could locate. This is not the Pat Leonard collaboration that we know as "Oh Father". He is definitely not listed as a co-writer on this song in either database.

"Dear Father" was registered with MCPS in 1992 which probably makes it part of the "Erotica" sessions. This was during Madonna's most controversial period. With such a provocative title we can only speculate what it might sound like - R&B? Hip Hop? Or what it might be about - incest? pedophilia? Christmas? Or the mood - sad? angry? vengeful? We may never know!

The MCPS database listed a third co-writer on "Dear Father" in addition to Madonna and Betts named Mic Murphy. This revelation is interesting for several reasons:

The third and most interesting reason that this triangle is so unexpected is that in my 1999 interview with former Madonna collaborator Stephen Bray, he explained that Mich Murphy was one of Madonna's early band mates. If I remember correctly, this was during the Gotham Management period circa 1981. It is not often that we can connect Madonna's early days to later in her career.

The reason Mic Murphy came up in our conversation was that Bray was explaining to me what some of the other band members had accomplished after working with Madonna. The other big mention was Jon Gordon who produced Madonna's Gotham tapes for former manager Camille Barbone and later hit big working with Suzanne Vega. The first show of Up For Grabs, May 13th 2002, with Madonna playing Loren, started with a standing ovation, something which is apparently unheard of so early in a show! Madonna plays a bidder wanting to buy a painting by artist, Jackson Pollock. She has to win over three other serious bidders, all with bags of cash, in order to get Her hands on the painting!

Madonna has recieved glowing reviews since the first show on May 13th at London's Wyndham Theatre. Many critics saying that Madonna did not find it an easy performance but worked hard at it and pleased the crowd. She may even be said to be at home with a show that included 'that infamous' lesbian kiss, plenty of cleverage, a line of cocaine and a large dildo.

The press here in the UK did not go mad and so far NO cover magazines or whole cover newspaper although the Tuesday Evening Standard (14th May) did feature a quarter page front cover shot and a great 1 page article with three shots of Madonna fondling Mindy, played by actriss Megan Dodd! This article also features Guy and Rocco. Guy was seen leaving early so to keep Rocco from watching such an 'x-rated' show!

Wednesday 15th May saw two UK newspaper articles worth acquiring. THE SUN newspaper included a page on 'that girl who Madonna kissed' Megan Dodds. The Daily Express had a small cover shot from Up For Grabs and 1 page article inside. YES!, it's about Madonna and that kiss!

The show starts officially next week!

I need some information about the Erotica leather 'SM' CD album case. If anyone has this item in their collection they may be able to help me.

Are there a European version and a US one?

I have found out 2 different but quite alike casings on the internet. I am going to give you a description:

Inside, when the CD is open, the booklets are different: one is having the warning on the cover and the other no.
Moreover the booklets are hold by 4 little straps at each corner: on the 1st one, there are small holes in the 'straps' and on the other one there are none.
Thirdly on the cover, when the CD is closed, it is slightly different too. the 1st one is studded at the 4 corners whereas the 2nd isn't. Strange!

Can anyone tell me what they know about this?

Well it does look like there may be fake copies of the Erotica CD in leather promo S&M casing. www.madonnastore.co.uk have just added the following information to their great Madonna website which they have allowed me to print at www.buysellmadonna.com.

I have never actually had my own copy of this pressing so can not say for sure whether the following information is cosher but it's well worth reading as it may save you hundreds of pounds.

The Erotica 'Leather' promo is one of the legendary Mandonna items. There is much speculation about it's origin and if in fact the CD was ever even an official promo item and not just a complete fake from the start.

It is common knowledge that there are a lot of fakes out there and it is this scepticism and lack of comparitive information and decent pictures that has led sources to simply dismiss all the CD's as fakes.

Over the years we have seen a number of these CD's and we are convinced that the the real thing does exist! Naturally we have one in our collection :-) The following guide gives you a definitive description of the real item and how to spot the fakes.

The large number of fakes, which have been made simply in leather, using a photograph, probably of another fake as reference, incorrectly interpret the construction of the cd as being completely leather, stitched together with a digipak insert. The original disc in fact is mostly card with a leather and metal strap.

The real CD is very much like the other limited edition Madonna digipaks. For instance, if you look at the construction of the Bedtime Stories 'Velvet' digipak you will notice that it is a thick card digipak covered in blue facbric which is not actually 'velvet' at all. In the same way, the 'Leather' Erotica is not actually leather but is also constructed of a thick card digipak covered in black textured leather effect paper, with real leather straps closing it. These CD's are very obviously manufactured by machine, wheras the fakes are very obviously hand made.

The digipak has four rivets in the front corners which penetrate the card and are visible in the inside cover. The inside surface of the digipak is covered in black tectured paper which is not Leather effect like the outside cover. Within the front cover are 4 triangular 'corner' holders designed to secure the CD booklet, these are held in place by the front four rivets. Each of the four triangular corners are made of similar black leather effect card to that covering the outside of the digipak and are punctured on the top surface making the back of the rivets visible inside the front cover.

The CD itself is housed in a black plastic digipak insert mounted on the back inside cover.

The rear cover has a single riveted 'male popper' in the centre. The well known 'bondage' style strap is attached under the popper by one for straps going over the spine of the digipak. This joins with 3 other straps to a 1 inch diameter thick stainless steel ring which rests in the centre of the front cover when the pack is closed by the remaining three straps. The top and botton straps are punctured to fit loosley over the rear popper and the remaining one is riveted with a 'female popper cover', which when popped stut holds everything firmly closed!

The generally accepted history suggests that the CD was originally destined to be a limited release in much the same way as the Bedtime Stories digipak. However, the project was cancelled due to high production costs. Therefore, the few CD's that exist with this packaging are prototypes that slipped out and as such there are probably not more than a handful in circulation. This adds up to the item being seriously rare!

As for the fakes, there is a huge market for this item so unfortunately anyone with access to some leather and some rivets could make a copy of the 'faked' CD and cash in on the confusion. Most collectors do not know what is real and what is not and as there is no printing or embossing on the original or anything on the case inside to indicate the artist, title, or record company, there has been little information available to help buyers - until now!

The situation has been made worse in the past by many well known sources unknowingly selling these faked CD's, even Esprit! Prices recently have been well in excess of £400 and the majority of those which have passed hands have undoubtedly been fakes. We know that a particular eBay member in Italy has been known to sell these fakes. Be careful - demand scans before you buy. Spot a fake - Check the photos below - note the stitching, note the thick leather cover. It might look good or even like you think it should be, but it is a fake!

If it's completely leather it's a fake.
If it's stitched it's a fake.
If the digipak insert isn't black it's a fake or it's been tampered with.
